Over the water

I had to get really down low to get this picture, it was well worth the short scramble down the bank to the edge of the water. I was happy that this came out well reflecting the mood of my lunch break. It’s still nice to get away from all the stress of work to capture scenes like these.

vegan gingerbread daleks

Last year we made some dalek cookies, they were ok, but these vegan gingerbread daleks are far superior!

I need to keep this blog updated more, as my flickr account is chock full of great pictures that need an outlet beyond that.

Sunset

This is a shot taken in november, we had walked out that evening particularly to see a nice sunset, but never expected it to be this good.

Space-face

I love finding faces in every day objects, like this new tin opener. Most of my favourites look like robots, which is a big draw for me. There are several Flickr groups dedicated to them, and even a MTV advert about turning off electrical goods to save energy.

I suppose winter will bring a whole host of indoor themed pictures like this one, as the days get shorter and colder, walking isn’t as pleasant as it was in spring/summer.

Ginger buns

I’ve been trying to improve my food-photography a bit. I liked this shot of these fantastic ginger buns Rob made. I think the angle and arrangement is a bit more exciting than my usual style. It was helped by the fact it was shot in the daytime, with decent lighting conditions too.

They tasted as yummy as they look!

Roar! (The mystery lion of regents square)

On a recent walk through my home town, we discovered this strange piece of masonry, standing with it’s back to the small public park in regents square.

It looks like it used to belong to a monument or an important building. I have no idea why it is still there, or how it came to be in such an odd position. Maybe this is the time to look into local history a bit more.

Sunset

Simple, but very effective. I love sunsets.

Hardened

I love how, because that I pretty much have my camera with me at all times, the most mundane or horrible tasks can produce a good picture.

In this case it was searching this old shed for dead rats! (someone had poisoned said rats and they kept turning up in our garden, and then dying). Luckily the shed was corpse free, but the crusty old lock was a great subject for a macro shot.

I also ran in to the old question of “could this be a better picture in black and white?” whilst post processing this. I’ll probably be uploading that one later.

Update – here is the monochrome version, I think I prefer the colour one personally.

Fungi at Cusworth Hall

Fungi has become my most favourite thing in autumn to photograph. This mighty specimen is pictured on the front lawn of Cusworth Hall, and is one of many that we saw on that day. I really must get around to identifying them all soon.

15:56

It’s great to see the sun setting in different places, like behind this tower block. I’ve waited a year for it to be back in this position, as I spotted it last year, when I was not yet back into photography. It’s very satisfying to finally capture it.
